iRacing enthusiasts are in for a treat! The McLaren 720S GT3 is set to replace the long-serving McLaren MP4-12C GT3 in the upcoming 2024 Season 4.
In recent updates, iRacing has expanded its GT3 lineup with the addition of the Corvette and Ford Mustang GT3 cars. These new entries join an already impressive roster featuring the Ferrari 296 GT3, Mercedes-AMG GT3, Audi R8 LMS EVO II GT3, Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO, BMW M4 GT3, and Porsche 992 GT3 R. With the inclusion of the Mustang, the older Ford GT has been phased out from the GT3 category.

The McLaren MP4-12C GT3, which has not been competitive in real-life GT3 racing since the mid-2010s, is finally getting a well-deserved update. The modern 720S GT3 Evo will take its place, bringing fresh excitement to virtual races.

Pfaff Motorsport, a Canadian team competing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship, has been racing the 720S GT3 Evo since the start of 2024, after previously running Porsches. This season, they have achieved notable success with two second-place finishes in the GTD Pro category at Laguna Seca and the 6 Hours of the Glen.
The announcement of the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo's addition to iRacing came via a tweet from Pfaff Motorsport, featuring a pre-render image of the car. iRacing retweeted this, hinting at the car’s release in time for the 2024 Season 4 update, which is expected around September 3, coinciding with the week 13 content refresh.
As the end of 2024 Season 3 draws near, iRacing is anticipated to unveil more details about the new cars and tracks set for the next season. The introduction of the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo suggests that more additions from IMSA and endurance racing may be on the horizon for virtual racing fans.
