Still No Updates On The Activation of Pixel Headlights In The US
If you are fortunate enough to get the Polestar 2 with the Pilot Package, you will have access to the futuristic Pixel Headlights that the new EV offers. Unless you are in the United States.
What are Pixel Headlights?
All Polestar 2's with the Pilot pack come with Pixel LED headlights. A front-mounted camera controls 84 Pixel LEDs found in each headlamp. The LEDs are individually turned on and off depending on what it senses, altering the beam to always deliver the best illumination.
Why are they not activated in the US?
When the Polestar 2 launched, US regulation did not allow for the Pixel headlight technology on US roads. The US has had a long and convoluted history of being behind the curve when it comes to headlight technologies. Mototrend did a deep dive if you care to read more into it.
When will they be activated in the US?
It seems as though with recent legal changes there is a chance that Pixel headlights will be allowed to be used in the US, but with all law related things, it is a slow process.
As reported by The Drive, section 24212 of HR 3684—the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and signed into law on November 16, 2021—is simply titled "Headlamps." and states, "Not later than 2 years after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall issue a final rule amending Standard 108." – Motortrend
I reached out to Polestar via Twitter and asked for an update, but unfortunately they were unable to provide one.
That's great to hear! Right now, we don't have an update to share on the Pixel LED lights, but we're still working on this, and we'll share more info as soon as we can.

Hopefully Polestar continues to keep everyone informed on the current status, but the more I see Europeans with the fancy Pixel Headlights, the more jealous I become. I think the Pixel Headlights are a fantastic step in the right direction for headlight technology.
